What is Helium 10’s Black Box?
Black Box provides a comprehensive Amazon product research tool that can quickly uncover profitable product niches and analyze products on Amazon for their selling viability.
Furthermore and as just discussed, thanks to its advanced filters, the tool is capable of providing highly accurate results with juicy data such as Brand Search, Seller Search, Title Keywords, Listing Age or 6 types of shipping size tiers. Another killer feature, when you compare it to Jungle Scout is that you can pull data from the Amazon Brand Analytics Report and combine it with Black Box, how cool is that?
How does it work?
Using Black Box is quite simple. There are 2 ways to use it: simple and advanced.
All you need to do is open up the Black Box tab on Helium 10 and enter the phrase / keyword / competitor you choice.
You can then adjust the advanced filters as needed and hit “Search”. The resulting list of products will display relevant information such as product title, ASIN, category, seller, fulfillment type, product size tier, BSR, average monthly sales, average monthly revenue, product price, reviews, number of sellers, is Amazon Retail selling the listing, etc.
If you choose to use it the “simple” way, all you have to do is answer some questions: “In the [country] marketplace for [a category] that needs [a little / some / a lot] improvement,
where competition is [low / medium / high] and I want to sell my product for [this price range] with a monthly revenue of [this range]
.
If you choose the advanced way of finding products, then the magic happens: 25 awesome filters are available to find any product you can imagine:
How to use BlackBox’s filers
Well, first let’s take a look at the 4 pre-built filters: high growth, low rating, low image count and small and light, so you can understand better what the filters feature is about.
- high growth: 10% sales change or more on the last 30 days + more than 300 units a month + include FBA and FBM products
- low rating: review rating is 3,8 or less + monthly sales (units) is 600 or more
- low image count: review count is up to 200 + number of images is 5 or less (so there’s room to improve a competitor ASIN’s listing) + monthly sales units is 300 or more
- small and light: monthly sales units is 300 or more + product’s weight is 3lb or less + include products on the shipping standard and small standard size tiers
And this is what you get

Ok, time for the advanced filters
Ok, time for the good stuff: how to use Helium 10’s Black Box advanced filters to find great products? Here are some useful filters:
New products skyrocketing sales
This is a great filter combination shared by The Honest Entrepreneurs and it shows products that are performing great saleswise and that are new to the Marketplace, let’s say, 90 days or less.
Filter combination:
- Monthly sales: 600 or more
- Listing age: less than 3 months
Products on your niche you can attack with ads
When combined with your subcategory, you can filter recently launched products with just a few reviews so you can attack their listings with Sponsored Products + manual target ASINs segmentation:
Filter combination:
- Review count: less than 5
- Listing age: less than 1 month
- Monthly sales: less than 100
Also, you can add a layer to find products with bad reviews
Filter combination:
- Review count: less than 5
- Listing age: less than 1 month
- Monthly sales: less than 100
- Reviews rating: less than 3.8
Large oversized products with no SFP
This filter will show data for large and oversized products using FBM, so you can offer a better fulfillment option using Seller Fulfilled Prime
Filter combination:
- Shipping size: large oversize + special oversize
- Listing age: less than 1 month
- Fulfillment: FBM
Blackhated products
Let’s say you suspect your competitors are faking reviews and you want to report them. Good news! there’s a filter to find potential blackhated products using the “sales to review ratio” filter, which means Monthly sales (units) / Total reviews count
Filter combination:
- Monthly sales: 600 or more
- Listing age: less than 3 months
- Sales to reviews: more than 100
This will show products which are generating a 16% rate of reviews per 100 units sold. That’s an abnormal sales to review ratio UNLESS it’s a new product with a strong brand, an influencers product… so, if you want even more accuracy, simply exclude Amazon Vendor / Retail from the equation:
- Monthly sales: 600 or more
- Listing age: less than 3 months
- Sales to reviews: more than 100
- Fulfillment: FBA + FBM
Conclusions
So now you know how Helium 10’s Black Box filters work (basic and advanced). Get familiar with the filters, play with them and, remember, that you can combine filters also with keywords, competitors and niches.
